The challenge
The original kitchen was closed off from the dining room by a load-bearing wall, leaving the cook isolated and the dining space dim. The homeowners wanted a single, generous space for cooking, hosting and homework.
Our approach
We engineered a flush structural beam to remove the wall without dropping the ceiling, then rebuilt the kitchen around a 10-foot island. Custom rift-cut white oak cabinetry, a leathered quartzite island and integrated paneled appliances keep the volume calm while doing real work.
The outcome
The kitchen now seats six at the island, runs a full prep zone and a separate baking zone, and reads as one continuous room with the dining area. Natural light from the dining windows reaches the kitchen for the first time.
